Anne Of Yellow Gables

Hmmm... everyone seems to be away on vacation.

Perhaps one of you can shed some light on this Canadian souvenir sheet (#2276) wherein the illustrators gave the fabled gables a yellow roof!



It came to my attention because I am currently modeling this structure for the model railroad at ExpoRail, Canada's National Railway Museum in St.Constant, QC.
From correspondence with the PEI Heritage Place staff, I understand that there was NEVER a yellow roof on the place. So... who at Canada Post would ever dare to recolour the Canadian landmark?

the house orientation is also wrong. the door is not at the right place either, and the fence is of different color and not showing on the picture Plenty of differences. May be the stamp portrays a picture from the Back yard?

I know the gables (pointy tops) are green, but yellow roof?

Yes, I agree with Sak in stating that the gable ends are green which is proper. Maybe the golden yellow is artistic expression on behalf of the artist. Not quite an accurate representation of history.

There are several stamps that are known to have design or information errors. They are curiously interesting. However, they are not considered to be somewhat rare unless a correction is made and another stamp is printed to replace it, usually immediately right after a withdrawal or recall.

That is very interesting. With all of the focus on the building on the stamp, I would think they would have tried to capture every detail as close as possible.

It looks as if they took some artistic license and wanted the roof to pop rather than to blend with the trees and greenery. And since the ochre/mustard was already an ink color being used.....
