I was looking at the "Identifying the circular dies, the Washington/Franklins of US postal stationery" and they had the dark violet color only on size 21, 3 7/8 x 8 7/8 envelope for this die. This is on a size 10, 3 1/2 x 6 5/16 with 30a water mark.

The UPSS 20th century catalog shows Die 146(H) on size 10, knife 57 and 57x on white paper. Watermarks 28, 28A, 30, 30A, 31, 33, 36, 39, 41, and 43 are all known on size 10 white paper, Die 146, as well. I am not sure where that erroneous line in "Circular Dies the Washington Franklins" came from as it should say oriental buff and blue in size 21 only. The author is now aware of this problem and will notify the editor.

Thank you.

Looks like white paper, just a bit toned overall.

Paper color is white.

All circular die envelopes have watermarks, all dies of the 1,2,3 cent values are on all colors of paper. Watermarks from 22 through 43 abound. There are a few scare or rare envelopes in this series but they are scattered with various knives, watermarks, and paper colors. Details in the UPSS 20th century catalog which is available both pdf and hard copy from the UPSS website.

I agree with Bill, white paper.
Also, both envelopes are purple color. Dark violet only comes on W19 and W20 (and one very rare W23)

Thanks Thomas! So the purple color range is rather large. I'll see if I can find a darker violet on any cover and compare. I was just going off the color images they use in the circular dies identifier page.

I found a dark violet to compare too and I see the difference. Only had one out of 80 3 cent covers.
