Hi, I'm totally new to the world of stamp collecting, and I recently inherited a stamp collection that I've been going through. It's been an eye-opening experience, and I've realized just how intricate and detailed this hobby can be.

During my sorting, I stumbled upon a 2-cent Harding stamp, and I've heard that there is a slight chance that it might be quite rare. I'd love to hear your thoughts and advice on whether it's worth getting it graded or any other insights you might have.

I know very little about collecting stamps so any bit of knowledge will help and be greatly appreciated.

If you post a scan of that stamp, preferably back and front, people here will tell you whether it makes sense to have it expertised.

A 'slight' chance is not a very realistic assessment. There is a post about this stamp every few weeks. There is yet to be a post that is the very rare one. The probability is almost zero. But still, there is a probability.

Edit: you posted a picture of the front as I was typing this.

The colloquial way of describing NSK's statement is, "one in a gazillion."

To put it in perspective there were 1,459,487,085 flat plate perf 11 Harding stamps issued and there are only 43 examples known of the Harding perf 11 rotary print waste issue. Put another way for every one Scott 613 there are 33,941,560 Scott 610's. So, the rotary print waste population is 0.00000002946 percent of the overall perf 11 population. The odds are slim to perhaps none if we are being practical.

Yet far, far better than winning the Lottery's big prize. Yet people try for that every few days.

Yes! So send in possible one in for a certificate just in case. Don't bother with comments here as the comments will never provide a good certificate. Each certificate request is not much money, after the refund on a bad certificate.

Edit: And folks get struck by lightning too; again too for turning tray to try and to add the sarcasm smilie.

Does it then follow that OP (and everyone else) should send in every possible 613 they come across, and go broke in the process?

No, the point of these threads is to help the person the person make the decision whether to submit for a cert or not. And, of course, provide support and help to others in general.

And "bad" certs can be a cause of some collectors no longer collecting. Pointless to spin the wheel on nothing but a lark. The good news is that according to the PF database most people have common sense and restraint given that the wheel of chance for 613 has only been spun 64 times.

BUT, that is not to say that the OP's stamp should not be examined further. Would be great to see the back before encouraging a certificate trip.
