What am I to make of this corner card? A southern sympathizer in Connecticut still indulging nostalgia for the antebellum, or a northerner mocking southern sentiments even a year after the end of hostilities (per cancel on reverse, not shown)?

Is it of any particular value, or a common thing?

"Secesh" is short for secessionist, as you've probably already surmised. The cover was probably made during the war and maybe the sender had some left over, post-war. I would say it was definitely a snub of the rebs, but if the recipient was a Union sympathizer it could have been an inside joke. I'm sure it tweaked the postal clerks who had to handle it down South.

Postal clerks "down South" did not have to handle this cover. "MS" was a common abbreviation of Massachusetts at the time. The town/state address is Charlestown, Massachusetts.
