Quite a difference in the number of letters moved. The linked article states:

Quote:
95,000 letters were moved daily, about 1/3 of all first class letters

The postcard states 5,000,000 letters daily.

https://about.usps.com/who-we-are/p...ic-tubes.pdf a link embedded in the original article discusses peak transport of 6,000,000 per day.

The lower figure of 95,000 was likely an editorial error when the author reworked from the early article I link about. It indicated that there were 95,000 steel cylindrical carriers used to transport the mail within the tubes.

Which is the linked article here is by far a much better read. .

The USPOD was so proud of the pneumatic tube systems they were touted at the Model Post Office at the PPIE (Panama Pacific International Exhibition) in 1915 held in San Francisco, CA, USA

In 1914, the last year information for the 1915 post card, claims 20,000,000 pieces of mail moved daily in the pneumatic mail tubes then used by the USPOD.

We dug up some of the old system on Beacon Street in Boston in the 90's along with wooden water mains.
