Hi, my name is Shelly. I recently went to visit my Mother 700 miles away and she loaded up my car with some of her stamp collection (apparently there's more to come.) I started collecting stamps with my step-grandmother when I was 13 or so and now I'm a Grandmother. I got packets of stamps in the mail from Jamestown Stamp Company for years. I pulled out all of my long neglected albums with intent to settle in for the winter enjoying stamps again. I think I have enough to keep me busy for the rest of my days. I just have to figure out which album to work with first... I have 7 incomplete world albums, 7 incomplete U.S. albums, and 2 of my Mother's First Day cover albums... I guess the first place to start is here! It's nice to meet you all.

Hi Shelly ,
Welcome, you've come to the right place. If you are located near Bellefonte, the American Philatelic Society museum and library is a nice place to visit.

Their web site also has a list of Stamp Clubs searchable by state or zip code that might lead you to a local club where you can meet up with fellow collectors.

Happy to see you return to the hobby. Welcome, and have fun.

Thank you Zebraman! Looks like I'm a bit more than 2 1/2 hours from Bellefonte... sounds like a good reason for a road trip! Thank you for the advice.

Moonmystic,

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

Thank you for the welcomes and great advice! I am so happy to be here AND I just realized the shoebox full of U.S. stamps that I haven't touch for a couple of decades is older than my grandchildren! I think it's time I do something productive with them, don't you? ha! I will certainly take advantage of everyone's expertise. Thank you all.
