I made it to the rank of Life in Boy Scouts. So close to Eagle, yet so far.

Back in May of this year, I posted the 10H blue Czech Scout stamp from 1918. Here is the other one, the 20H, with a typical N.V. mark:

The N.V. mark stands for "National Committee" and was used on mail that was destined for the National Committee. Some sources say that this was more like a transit mark than a postmark, and shouldn't appear on the stamps, themselves, but on the cover. Or at least, it shouldn't be the only mark on a stamp. That could be true, but you see supposedly genuine covers that include a stamp with only the N.V. circle and no other cancel. It is beyond me.

The N.V. handstamp was also in private hands for years after 1918, allowing for some chicanery in the production of after-the-fact covers.

These stamps were printed individually, not in sheets. You won't see pairs or blocks of this stamp.

(Even allowing for a later application of the N.V. mark, I am not completely certain that this stamp is legitimate, but it shows the basic characteristics of the issue.)

Seems appropriate to "bump" this thread, as the Boy Scouts of America was incorporated on this date (February 8th) back in 1910...102 years ago today:

I recently got this set from Liberia. I believe I saw a scan/post from Rod222 showing one of them in this thread. (Sorry if some of them are crooked in the mounts)
