88 year old Canadian actor Donald Sutherland is honored on a Canadian postage stamp. He considers it the highlight of his career.

I just listened to a sweet interview of Donald Sutherland on "Q with Tom Power" on CBC radio.

Here are some rough quotations that I scribbled down.

"I love my country. I am very proud that they gave me a stamp"

"We grew up writing letters. The stamp means everything to me"

Donald describes some of his achievements: he was one of the 8 celebrities and athletes who together carried the Canadian flag into the Olympic stadium in the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, he won a couple of Golden Globes and an honorary Oscar, he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Canadian Walk of Fame, and he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. None of that tops the honor of the postage stamp.

Host: At this moment in your career, with all your accomplishments and honors, looking back, what are you most proud of?
Donald: At this moment, to be truthful, the stamp.
You know, the stamp goes everywhere, in this country and abroad. That puts me on letters that go everywhere. I love it. I am so touched by it.

Host: It is a beautiful thing. It is an appropriate honor for you.

Host: Are you a stamp collector?
Donald: I am now. I have a lot of Donald Sutherland stamps. People have sent me letters just because they wanted to send me a letter with my stamp on it

And he wants more...
"I want people from all over the world to send me postcards with my stamp on it."

(Umm, Mr Sutherland, someone outside of Canada is going to have a hard time mailing a postcard with a Canadian stamp, not to mention they won't be able to buy the stamp at their local post office, but I digress).

The CBC has published Donald Sutherland's mailing address here (basically General Delivery in Georgeville Quebec), and at the end of the article is an embedded link where you can listen to the whole interview,

If the link takes you to the main page of the radio show, the episode was aired 12/12/2023.

He, probably, has never posted a letter himself.

You could quibble about the design a bit, but that's a nice tribute.

I wrote him a postcard last December, and I'm going to believe that he read it within the following six months. RIP. One of the greatest actors of his generation.
