John - Like your wife, I consider myself a typical postal card collector. I like to have an example of each; Mint, postal used (in period), FDC un-cachet, FDC cachet. Also, as they come my way: post marks, plate varieties, unusual destinations, auxiliary markings; usually found in larger collections I pick up.
Always looking for recent cards postally used, but they are harder to find as people seem to use cards less.
Anyway, it's an enjoyable, fairly inexpensive side hobby.

Thanks,
Pat

No worries. If I do not learn at least 2 new things a day I can't fall asleep. But when I compose replies to your threads, I am unsure if I should talk about market values or not.

Please also keep in mind that there is a history here at SCF, and other similar online communities, where people come here only to only take advantage of the community for self-serving purposes. Some of these folks are 'clever' enough to read the room and know that unless they frame their posts in the context of education, they will not get a lot of feedback. Sometimes we also see these same people then turn around and list their material incorrectly by taking the knowledge they received here and using it out of context.

So please understand that you are a bit of a 'rare bird', I respect your thirst for knowledge and a better understanding.
Don

Why thanks Don. One thing I am learning about all these cards.......it's quite subjective. Lots of nuances and levels of rarity, combined with selective buyers, large and small. Similar to coins, but much more vast and complex. It's also making the cold Winter go by a bit faster :)

The watermarks thing really has my curiosity. Not easy to decipher. I can see them, just not sure what I'm looking for in uniqueness.

BTW, nice car. I have a 1930 Chevy Roadster and a 1940 BSA 500 CC Motorcycle, both restored. Just sold the 53 Merc, 28 Model A Phaethon, and the 56 Nash Metro.

Indeed. To paint broadly, coins typically don't have the "who spent this coin?", like postal cards have the added aspect of "who sent this card?".
