I have this item and it is labeled RN-D3
That appears to be the most valuable of the varieties listed in the Scott Catalogue.

This is an item from my grandfather's collection and I believe it is his identification.
This was likely done in the late 1950's as He passed away in 1959.
It appears that color is the only distinguishing characteristic of the variety and the question here is there any other known way to distinguish the varieties?
Absent that my thinking is to submit it for certification to see what the experts would decide. Any advice and/or comments is appreciated.

You have an RN-D1, clearly orange. Sorry.

Add: In the context of your grandfather's time, this is what the Scott Specialized catalog had as listings for RN-D and its varieties throughout the 1950s:

And fortunately, the appearance can be greatly improved by gently working the paper around the spindle holes back into place.

I appreciate the fact that somebody was actually able to show how the catalog listed it back in those days and isn't it remarkable what the pricing was at that time thank you very much for the assistance and I will VHYes my thinking about this particular piece of paper.

I have these 3 additional labeled RN-D3 and their color is quite a bit darker, but I do not think as brown as the above example.

Any additional comments ? Thank you all for your contributions.
