I have this odd item that I think is Chinese but have no idea what it is or when it's from. If anyone has any suggestions they would be appreciated. The first photo is in true color. The second I altered to hopefully making out the text and design easier.

Hi, this is from Japan - a silk fabric inspection label from Toyama prefecture.

The Kanji characters in the main design could be read as (columns from right to left)

"Toyama Prefecture "
"Silk fabric manufacturer "
"Association Label(seal)"

The small characters on the top are

"inspection No."

and those at bottom indicates the length of the fabric, which for this case is

"Twelve Jo zero Shaku".

One Shaku = approximately 30.3cm, and
One Jo = ten Shaku = approximately 3 m, so
12 Jo = about 36m.

There's lots of such silk fabric inspection label/seals, and I reckon there's more new discoveries!
