Rod222, thanks.. I gather the larger ones are what you are calling Commercial Drafts?
Can you tell me what LHS stands for?
EDIT: With your help, Rod, I was able to track down and fond about the two right most stamps.. Here's the description:
The stamp is 3 Sen bron tax revenues “shunyu inshi” from 1898 to 1909 set. The values 1 sen to 10 sen shows a design with a vine scroll “karakusa” in addition of the chrysanthemum symbol. |

I suspect the first may be a cut-out from a postal stationery envelope or postcard. It's inscribed Japanese Imperial Posts - no indication of revenue usage. |

Thanks Tony! gee, why didn't I think of that? It didn't look like a revenue, but didn't compare to any postage I had. Stationery just flew over my head, I must be getting old SV: LHS is "left hand side" here is the set |

Tony, one thing that may have confused me, is the wavy line cancel, (not the same wavy cancel, lines not so close together) which was put on Japanese stamps as "cancelled to order" issues perhaps that is what led me away from stationery perhaps.

ah.. I see the two on the RHS..
The LHS however remains a mystery.. I will look tonight at it to see if it was cut or not.

Just remembered that I have an ancient (well, 1978) Japanese catalogue. Your LH item appears there: it's a cutout from a 1½ Sen postcard of 1911 or 1925. The entire card used was rated at ¥100 from either year - Numbers 普は24 or 25, if they haven't changed in the meantime. |

clap, clap, clap, clap. well done to the Prince of Primitives. If 1978 is ancient, goodness knows what I must be |

Why, thank you, O Doyen of Dumpster Divers I call a 1978 catalogue ancient, as one who has religiously bought a Gibbons Part 1 every year since 2002 ... |

Yes it is from a post card. I looked it again last night.. It had a bunch of writing on the back. Can't make out what it is...
Tony, where you asking what the price he paid for the catalogs were?
And What is a Stanley Gibbons 1? |
