Stampvirgin, Stanley Gibbons Part 1 is otherwise known as their British Commonwealth 1840-1970 volume. Indispensable if you want to know about the British Commonwealth outside North America - leaves Scott for dead on those countries. (I just love it when sellers try to identify Indian States stamps by Scott!) |

Well, if you're going to take the British Commonwealth (ex Canada) pre-1970 seriously, I'd say you seriously need a Gibbons. If, for example, you want to talk about Queen Victoria Great Britain, noone will understand you if talk Scott numbers, because noone uses Scott for such things. You'll also find vastly more detail about the stamps. This is always nice to know, because without it, you risk leaving serious money on the table. Depending on how deep your pockets are, wait a few months and buy the 2011 edition, which will probably come out in September, or buy an older edition.
On the other hand, if you're only interested in St Vincent sets from the 1990s, Scott is as good as anything else. |

My last one was 2007, so I'm definitely due for an update........ There's so much annotation in SG, you can read it like a book when you're bored. Or is that just me? |

SV-
Lots of US outlets carry SG. Subway, for one, has 2010 at about $188, and 2006 at $85. (2006 is still in the era where it ended at 1952 instead of 1970.) Last time I ordered from Subway, I had three softcover catalogues in my order, and shipping was about $15, so not exactly free.
Depending on exchange rates, ordering from SG will run about $110, plus shipping, for 2010.
It is a fantastic reference.
