Hi,

The stamp in question has on its reverse two letter "S" symetricaly stamped on both sides. It is only that they look like being stamped to me. Could this be a watermark or something else?
They are placed just above the value marks that are on the face of the stamp.

Thank you

It is a backwards "2", not an "S".
It is ink picked up ('offset' or 'setoff') from the face of the stamp it was placed on during printing.

No additional market value.

Thanks Don.

Was this common to happen on US stamps of that era during printing process?

Yes, it occurred with Flat Plate printing.
As the sheets came off the press, the ink could remain wet, the next sheet would land on it and pick up ink from the sheet underneath it.
