Those dot patterns on Canadian stamps... .
Are they real postal cancels? Or are they CTO's?

One might counter that the primary task of any postal service is to move the mail and protect its revenue, rather than create collectible used stamps for collectors. And of course, what is an attractive cancel (or not) is in the eye of the beholder. This is just one more step in a long progression of technologies in the evolution of postal mechanization and processing,

That one stamp above is a birds eye view of Point Pelee National Park, about as far south as you can go in Canada. The size and shape of the sand tongue at the end keeps changing because of the deadly rip currents. Sometimes it's a few hundred yards long. Here is a photo of a daring young me from the mid 80s, right at the very end.

One might counter-counter that if the postal service did not want to create collectible used stamps, it would simply issue white squares with rates printed thereon...

Sak,
Making attractive stamps and applying attractive cancels are two separate topics.
If you don't like Canada's cancels, then write to the authorities there and let us know how much traction you get.
