It's one of the offset printings. Look among Scott 526-528B.
Add: And no, you don't need to quit, but rather when you *think* you have found a stamp worth more than $1 or 2, the alarm bells should go off that you have more likely overlooked a more common 25 or 50 cent variety in the catalog. Double check and triple check.
One of the challenges to a beginner is the lack of reference material of having a quantity of other stamps to compare against. Even differentiating among the 5 offset types can be daunting with only the poor catalog illustrations to go by, rather than having a dozen or more actual stamps to sort through. |

Appears to be Type VII. The proof is in the details. Can you show a closer photo of the head? I need to check the dots on the nose and above the lip. I'm strongly leaning toward a #528B due to some determining factors. |

Sorry, that photo is too blurry. I need to count the dots, and with this photo, I'm unable to see any dots.

Well your watermark detector looks rather old. In those times, people died at a much younger average age than today. Maybe the cause was people using carbon tetrachloride for watermark detection? In any case, stay away from that stuff, if it even is available at all nowadays. And the bottom perf row does look a little "too round". |
