What stamp, what country?

And why should there be anything else going on if the listing says 'no watermark'?

Welcome to the group.
You will find with any group that the promptness, helpfulness and thoroughness of replies is in direct proportion to the amont of information supplied.
A picture is worth a thousand words, thus a hi-resolution scan of both sides of the item would be most helpful. This often lets us confirm the ID. (And speed some of us along who are more familiar with Scott or other catalogs and have to do a mental catalog number conversion.) Also some information on the homework you have done, i.e., what catalog or websites are you using to get information. That way we don't repeat the same steps, etc.

For those not familiar with the SG catalogue. This would be a 1/2d typography stamp. SG418c is a variety of SG418, which is the one with the so-called 'Block Cypher' watermark of King George V.

This stamp exists with three watermarks. However, if it truly has no watermark, you cannot distinguish between the stamps unless one is attached that has the watermark. Also, a clearly dated cancellation could rule out stamps.

As a single, the catalogue editor would only be able to list it under one of the three watermarks. The listing may be under the Block Cypher stamp because it has been established that is the source for the stamps found.

So, no, there is nothing further going on with it. There would be no reason for anything else going on with it.

The specialised catalogue only prices it as a pair with the control attached. The control is what identifies it as a SG 418 without the watermark.
