Hi sapphireguy. I think you need to look at your computer - it is what enlarges the picture of the stamp image.

A few questions:
Are you using scanning software on your computer or just pressing the scan icon on the scanner's touchscreen? If scanning software, which one? What format is the resulting file (jpg, pdf, etc)? |

Well I installed the recommended software but could never find the right setting. Nothing about dpi, but I could enlarge my test image, and of course it looked like crap. then my new computer locked up. Turned it off and waited a while and got it back up. So I have uninstalled it and restarted and am back where I started. I dont remember what software I installed either. |

Without knowing what software you're using, it's almost impossible to help you find the correct settings. |

According to the web, your scanner is TWAIN compliant and capable of 1200x1200 dpi optical. It's not fancy but it should be perfectly fine for posting up items for discussion.
There are, no doubt, better ways to do this, but I would download irfanview, if you don't have it. It's safe (if you are even remotely responsible about where you source it), lightweight (on system resources) and perfectly capable of all that you need it to do.
Basically, you're going to use irfanview to run the scanning features, and acquire scans through the software. If this sounds like a big deal, G@@gle your model number and "irfanview" and you'll get several resources to walk you through it. 80% of the images I've posted here over the last 15 years have been done this way. The others were done with more sophisticated equipment but no more satisfactory results.

Perhaps your owner's manual provides a link for online HP help. I use HPSmart and in the beginning got lots of assistance online.. |

Sapphire - Don't give up. This frustrating trial and error process is the only way I ever learn to make my technology work. If I'm understanding the problem correctly, I'm guessing that when you scan the stamp you're getting a .jpg image and that the stamp is a small part of the overall scan in the picture file. What I would do is edit that .jpg and use the cropping tool to focus in on just the stamp and then resave that as a new .jpg. Your scanner software may have the tools to do this, but I usually just use the Windows photo editor to do it. |
