Thank you rlsny! I found the last position on the right pane that I needed (36R1)! That completes the virtual reconstruction and the guide dot chart for the right pane. The right pane reconstruction is scaled at 20%. Original image is 600dpi. The right pane guide dot chart is scaled at 33%. Original images are 1200dpi. Here are the two images for the right pane: |

Here are the spacing charts that I made for the 1851 12c Washington issue. All images were made from plated blocks. They do not exactly match what Neinken had listed in his book, but they are correct. |

@jaxom - welcome back.
Amazing work you've done here, truly amazing, and appreciated.
Regarding your plating work on Scott #1, the 5c 1847 stamp, someone was able to plate the Mower shift and another variety all as a result of your work on that. So - bravo ! |

Here is the right pane spacing chart for plate 3. There is an extra spot showing the misplacement of positions 28R3 and 18R3 where the roller was lifted and placed back down slightly off. |

JAXOM, I wanted to say thank you so much for plating the 97-98R3 pair for me from plate 3. I'm still amazed that 97R3 is the only one from the right plate with a full frame line missing, other then 99R3 which is almost completely missing but for the top left of the frame line. also super wowzers on the full left and right pane of plate 1 reconstruction. that's amazing and will be of much help with many in the future. you're work and dedication is recognized beyond any words can ever explain. So thank you Sir. |

Thank you for your praise. I was also surprised that I was able to plate it so quickly. I think I will find more missing frameline positions. Here is what Neinken has said on position 98R3: |

Thank you for taking your time for creating the illustration from the Nieken to show the 98R3 shift. I'm sure you will find more missing frame lines as you reconstruct plate 3. but so far even from the example used in the Nieken still has some of the frame, just like 99R3 being very close, as we discussed in the other post. but 98R3 has none. something tells me that matters, I could be wrong. but from what I have seen in other early US issues these Var stand out much more, than others. |

I started a guide dot chart for the right pane of plate 3. From the half sheet image and the quarter sheet image I made this chart. Of the 75 positions, 13 guide dots cannot be made out because of the perforations. That leaves 63 positions good. Not a bad start from 2 images. The reason that no plating information is available is because no one finishes and no documentation, so every one that tries has to start from scratch. Well, I will give it a try. These two images were together at one time. Perfs line up. I wish that I had a database to store these images. It will be hard with no plating diagrams to start with. |

The right pane of plate 3 is coming along well. I am only missing 6 positions and 11 guide dot images. I have changed out some of the images a few times looking for better examples. The left pane will be much harder as I don't have 3/4 of a sheet to start with. There is no data on plating it. I have found images for the left pane with position marked. I do not know how they were plated but I will have to start by accepting the plating was correct. I hate doing that. I always recheck the plating. But I have to start somewhere. Does anyone know where I can find any plating data on the left pane? Here is my progress on the right pane guide dot chart: |

I know that one plating aid are the two vertical lines in well defined columns - one in the right pane and one in the left pane.
For the left pane the extra vertical line is either to the left or right of the 3L column - I forget which side its on. |

Re-linking a few plate 3 posts I've made. 91-95L3 - its 94L that has the double frameline at left. I believe this goes vertically all the way up the plate as does the one on the right pane. This gets you quickly to a column of interest. 9-10/19-20L3. The tool marks on 10L3 are consistent, and make it a pretty cool plate variety. |
