He is a long time coin and stamp collector. I found an envelope of stamps in his safe and just wanted to share with the group.

Looks like he bought these two (#292 & #293) from H.E. Harris & Co on 9/10/1977 for $875

This was purchased for $800 from the same company

There are a bunch of others from that range. Then he has a booklet which is all sticky and I am afraid of damaging the stamps.

Any way I think he would enjoy other stamp lover's checking out parts of his collection.

It looks like most of the stamps are in Crystal Mounts, popular in the 1950's-1960's. The stamps should be removed from them and the stamps stored in a new stock book. The Crystal Mounts may damage the stamps, if they have not already done so.

Most of your stamps do not seem to be too well centered which affects the value. Also, prices paid in the late 1970's and early 1980's would have been at the top of the market. The market is down since then and has not yet recovered to those lofty heights.

The good news is you have a lot of key values if you decide to continue the collection.

Sticky and stamps do not go well together.
HE Harris is not known for top quality and the stamps pictured are not well centered, but the first 3 stamps you pictured are important stamps, so even less than ideal examples (like his off centered examples) still have value (just not as much as he originally paid for them) and many collectors do not have those in any condition.

The orange buffalo (#287) is the best of the last group and also better centered (and happens to be one of my facorite US stamps).

Your stamps have significant value as shown below:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nk...ed&_dcat=261

These are items sold on ebay recently and there are many other examples.

Please before you start working with these stamps and trying to remove them from their mounts or envelopes learn how to use tongs and handle stamps properly. Stamps are easily damaged by improper handling.

I've got all those. Looks like my collection except that my son will never see it.

That's good I would hate to see these get damaged. I was buying from Harris way before 1977 and my largest order was less than $20. As far as I could see Harris only sold "average" stamps. I always wondered what happened to the stamps with better centering?

Congratulations on finding some nice stamps.

Ken
