Having never seen one in the flesh, is this a double transfer? I do see it as silk paper.... Thanks for looking!

Also, it cannot be a silk paper with an 1866 cancel. Silk paper was not issued until 1870 |

Agree. An underinked stamp. The top right digit 2 and "EV" show clear signs of sulphurisation. If you keep the stamp as is, this degradation will eat through the stamp in the future. The infection can also spread to other close-by stamps. If you want to save the stamp, use a weak hydrogen peroxide solution to "wash" the entire stamp or use a brush to clear the affected area..
I do not know the value of the stamp. If it has value, despite the bad centering, at least keep the stamp away from any other stamps. |

Ok, thanks all for the confirm. I guess I looked too quickly at the back, I thought it was R15d, "As no. R15c, silk paper" and not paid attention to the date of cancel.... I see now. Thank you again. EDIT: ADD INFO |

Quote: I do not know the value of the stamp. If it has value, despite the bad centering, at least keep the stamp away from any other stamps. While that is good advice, as it happens this is one of the most common of the Civil War era revenues. |

Greetings to the board @StampCelt. I'm no expert, but hard to tell from those images. Are they pics? Do you have scans you can attach? |

These are 600 dpi scans, best I can do. They really do depict ink that is not clear but rather spread out in places. |

Thanks Dan. I have been a customer of yours many times and value your opinion. What do we need to be looking for here? I don't see really any doubled letters; on the top stamp the top ornaments MIGHT be doubled, especially on the left. What do you see? |
