Beautiful stamp, but do you have a question And by the way, the color is not even close to brownish-black !

I have several like this, and they are oxidized/sulfuretted. That may or may not be what is happening with this one. Ray |

No need to see what you have of the 1851 issue. The stamp is heavily oxidized or sulferreted. ray.mac is correct. |

Both of those links are returning black and white scans, mostly to show the reverse of the stamp. Are you implying that you have offset or an image on the back of your stamp? I think not. Do you have a color version for comparison? |

The Siegel auction pictures you linked to are black and white enhancements of the pink version, so can't be applied to your stamp. As has been implied, your stamps are oxidized, whether from 1847 or anywhere up to 2024, you would see a similar effect. I hope this helps you realize that your stamp is considered damaged by many collectors.
But if you continue to wonder, please send it in to an expertizing firm for their costly opinion. |

Why not send it in for experts answer? It won't cost you much. We'll wait for you to post their opinion. |
