You have a part of a set of 7 stamps issued by San Marino on December 24, 1947 to commemorate the centenary of the first US postage stamp. You have the lower 3 value. The other denominations are 15,25,50 lire and a 100 lire airmail stamp.

The three stamps you have are valued at 30c in the 2009 Scott catalog. The 3 highest denomination stamps are worth more, with the airmail stamp valued at $10.

I agree, they are pretty stamps. There are topical collectors who specialize in SOS (Stamp On Stamps).

The 5c and the 10c are from 1847
The 90c was issued in 1869 :)
Not sure why the designer slipped that one in.

The 90c Lincoln is a long-standing traditional favorite of collectors of US classics. But I think the main reason is the international standing of Lincoln along with Washington in US history. You will find a lot of stamps on Lincoln, and later on, Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy on non-US stamps. Obviously, in 1947, FDR and JFK had not been truly established historically.

I didn't see that thread. You must have posted it when I was out running errands.

Safe travels, and please drop in again upon your return (or drop in while traveling, you don't want to get bored on the road )
