I wouldn't even dare to touch things with Hitler or a swastika on them. But nice collection nevertheless. |

Interesting accumulation, 'fan. You found some nice pieces. Is there any special significance or story to the heads on piece in the third scan? Most of them say they were postmarked May 9, 1945, the day the Soviets occupied Prague. (For the non-WWII-history buffs, Germany had already surrendered and Hitler had been dead more than a week.)
Thanks for sharing.

Very nice haul there sharkfan. I have a couple of questions - Is there a term for those plain sheets with the stamps and commememorative cancels? Are they just a form of a commemorative cover? Also do you know a book reference, website or book on German fieldpost cancels? Thanks, Will |

so the Postcards are canceled but not used? I mean there is no writing on them?
Cjd.. yeah they are dated after Germany surrendered. Well the Gerry's surrendered to the USA on May 7, laid down their arms on May 8, and surrendered officially to the Russians on May 9. I wouldn't be surprised if some German Postmaster punched out a bunch of these knowing the next day it would be illegal. Since it was the day the Soviets occupied Prague, as you said CJ, it seems likely that the postmaster there might have stamped those out. Of course everything I am saying is just my own conjecture. Having those postmarks on the Official last day of the German Reich, would be cool. Postmaster might not have known about the US |

The three on gray paper in that same scan purport to be dated the 12th and 15th of May, 1945. |

I had some stamps with Hitler on them at one point. They creeped me out and found their way to the trash can. Guess that makes them that much more rare and collectible. Was tempted to burn them or use them for toilet paper. |

Quote: at this rate I will become a used stamp collector
what a horrid thought
Resistance is pointless. "Philatelics anonymous" is a good start for Mint Unhinged collectors, to alter their ways. Then we need to educate you about gum |

Oh please! Not the "gum" topic again! I beg of you Rod! I understand about gum and stamps and mint and not mint. I dream about gum on stamps or not on stamps Anything but that! Donna |
