Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a comprehensive list of cities across the U.S. that have hosted official First Day Cover (FDC) releases for any U.S. postage stamps throughout the years. Whether they were for commemorative, definitive, or special issue stamps, I'd love to know which city for a given stamp.

If anyone has access to this kind of information or can point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate your help!

I'm not sure if this meets your needs, but the First Day Covers section of the Scott Specialized Catalogue has the name of the city (ies) by stamp.

Thank you, Alan! I will take a look. Is this the right catalog? https://www.amazon.com/Specialized-...p/0894877100

Yes, that is the right catalog. If you don't need the information up to the very latest date, you can frequently find older used copies of the catalog on ebay for much cheaper. Or check out your local library, they might have a copy you can borrow. Keep in mind the information is in chronological order (by Scott catalog number), it is not cross-referenced by city.

Another option if you just have a few stamps that you want to look up their First Day city is MysticStamps.com they have a wealth of information about each stamp typically including at least one of the First Day cities.

I got to thinking that this question should be a perfect job for AI. I started by going to copilot.microsoft.com and asking for a list of First Day cities from 1952 as an example, and I got this response,

Then I asked for 1953, and wanted them sorted by the First Day city. I got a list, but I'm not sure about how it thinks they are sorted by city.

This free version of AI from Microsoft is fun to play with, but has its limitations. Other options may provide better results.

Having a cross-referenced city database is what I really wanted in the first place.
AI doesn't seem to provide accurate answers for the questions like "What are the First Day Covers that have ever been released in xxx?
But thank you for the idea of using MysticStamps and AI as resources!
