I found an interesting part-cancel on a Dutch stamp (7 1/2c Queen Wilhelmina definitive) that dates it to about 1923.

"VAARWATER GELEGEN" apparently translates as 'adjacent to the waterway.'

"TEGRONDEN BESCH" translates as 'ground description,' i.e. floor plan.

So this cancel appears to be advertising a new block of apartments or holiday houses, which would be unusual as far as postmarks go.

If anyone has a copy of a stamp or cover with the complete datestamp, I'd be keen to see it!

Almost certainly it is not a 'floor plan.' It makes no sense in combination with the text in the lower arc. That last word may be 'BESCHERMD,' i,e,. protected. The first word is a partial one and it might refer to a type of earth that protects. In that case it might refer to the Netherlands being located on large rivers and being protected by dunes, hills, or levies. As such, the first word might be 'HOOGTEGRONDEN.' This might be for some trade or maritime event. If the 'HOOGTEGRONDEN' are hills, it might be Arnhem.

The type of cancel is one used for commemorative cancels used at exhibitions or for special events but more likely a sponsored handstamp. I, however, cannot find this particular one.

Possibly, it is listed in Onze bekendste stempelcatalogi zijn die van F.W. van der Wart, Reclamehandstempels en Gelegenheidsstempels or Jos M.A.G. Stroom en Cees J.E. Jansen, Reclamehandstempels 1925-1970 (2011).

NSK, thanks for looking into this!

Can I ask what 'Reclamehandstempels' are?

Sponsored handstamps / advertisement handstamp.

Reclame = advertisement.

This is a similar type of handstamp

In the book "de poststempels van Nederland" ( Dutch Postmarks) this cancel is listed as number 33. The cancel was used in Maassluis and has the complete text : Terrein aan spoor & vaarwater gelegen gemeentegronden. The cancel was available in the period 1925/1927.
Maassluis is a small town between Rotterdam and the North Sea.

@hans,

could it be you should read the listing as

Quote:
Terrein aan spoor & vaarwater gelegen gemeentegronden beschikbaar

and

Quote:
1925/1927

I.e., "Land bordering on rail tracks and waterways council lands available" which was in use 1925/1927?

This would be an advertisement for real estate owned by the Maassluis local council.

Thanks, everyone, for the information.

I had never heard of advertising postmarks before.

I wonder if they exist for any other countries besides the Netherlands.
