Thanks in Advance

Tied: When a cancellation extends from the postage stamp over part of the cover, the stamp is said to be "tied to the cover" by the cancellation. Being tied to the cover is evidence that the stamp was used to pay postage and was not added later to make the cover more attractive or valuable to collectors.

Same thing since the acid serves as a cancellation by preventing reuse. The method of cancellation isn't important when using the term "tied", just the fact that some step was taken to mark the stamp and cover simultaneously.

If for some reason a stamp was cancelled with the cancel only on the stamp and not extending to the cover it would not be described as "tied".

Thanks. I'm obviously biased as the owner of this cover, but it bothers me that Scott values the tied cancel much higher when it seems silly to try to "tie" this type of stamp due to its thickness…

I stipulate, however, that at a tie does connote genuineness.

It's probably a $50-100 cover. I have seen similar covers in much better condition and with more cancel interest (multiple, blue etc.) sell at Siegel for around $300. Cool piece.

This cover sold for $325 back in 2019:

Within the broad field of postal history, the majority of fakes are also tied to make them seem more convincing. Being "tied" alone does not guarantee anything. One should look at every aspect of a cover when determining its authenticity.
