Hi there
new here - started collecting about 5 months ago because a friend of mine designed a set of UK stamps so I bought a set and that put stamps into my brain and made me look through mine and my dad's childhood collections.
I love acquiring old world albums cheaply (I have a guy who lives locally that is a car boot sale hound and I often get stuff from him) and leafing through the nice ones and gutting the terribad ones.
collecting wise I have 2 areas of interest - worldwide pre about the mid 50s and anything that screams "GLORIOUS COMMUNIST PURPOSE!"
I'm particularly fond of the Weimar Germany inflation stamps - possibly because almost every album has a set :D
currently in the middle of a massive project to soak, sort and document the stamps I have - I was originally doing it album by album but that's slow and requires a lot of brain jumps so now I'm sorting loose stamps by country then using quick dating to put them into Old/Int/Mod envelopes whereupon I'll probably sell on the int and mods (outside of the glorious communism obvs) and document the olds
my desk is covered in eggboxes with labelled glassine envelopes and I my other half's patence is frayed

Hey, welcome! Bugging out with the stamps, seems you really caught the stamp bug! Great that you are getting into the history behind the Weimar inflation stamps, the Weimar inflation stamps are awesome. I like your sorting system just fine, seems solid even if it's a little slow going— that'll be worth it once it's all in place! If your other half can just get through the eggboxes and glassines, hope they can. :)

Ms Sarah Orange,

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

Welcome!

I'm hovering on the edge of considering adding ww to my interests ... right now I collect GB, US and US precancels, with 99.9% of my time going on the latter.
