Trying to learn

I have three Canada Scott #309 stamps. Two appear the olive color described.

The remaining stamp looks almost black.

I assume there will be some variation in the inks but how far off would be expected or normal.

Hope the color comes through in the photos if not a general answer would be appreciated. Thanks Popeye

Have you looked at Scott 285 (sheet) or Scott 298 (coil)?

These are the 2 cent sepia printings.

Also, the 2x that you say you have is Scott 305 for sheet version and Scott 309 for coil version. Your photo does not indicate whether it is sheet or coil!

The only 2 colors of this stamp I know of are Sepia (brown), and Olive Green. They are obvious in their coloring. I've been searching for a past article on this forum about what causes color changes. I haven't been able to locate it. Basically, the article details out the ways the colors can fade/change due to any number of factors and environmental conditions.

I did find this article; it is not as in depth as the one I remember reading on this forum. It will however give you a clearer understanding as to what is happening or may have happened to your stamps. https://stamps.org/news/c/start-col...anipulations

I hope this helps.
