I need some assistance/advice… I just acquired a huge collection of these types of covers. I estimate I have about 2000 of them. Are they called " commemorative covers"? Is there a club or subset of people for this?

Thanks in advance for the valuable insight.

Also called "Event Covers" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event_cover ). One possible outlet for them is of you group them by topic for topical collectors. For example "100 train-themed event covers for $10.00" could be of interest to train collectors, etc. Also grouping them by State could find some local interest. I don't know of a club or organization dedicated to event covers, but I could be wrong. Covers are bulky and modern philatelic covers like these don't have much monetary value so the storage costs are more than they are worth. Like with stamp mounts, sometimes the sleeves are worth more than the covers themselves.

If they are organized by date, you might also do well selling them as birthday or anniversary gifts to non stamp collectors. "$5 for 5 commemorative covers celebrating events around the country that happened on your birthday September 7th 1989."

Have fun!

The USPS refers to the basic cancel portion as "Pictorial Cancellations" in their periodic announcements in the "Postal Bulletin", which does not include all of them. Linn's has also repeated much of this coverage from time to time.

As noted, these cancels are used to make various "event covers", and that there is minimal market for these except for their topical or geographic interest. (I would guess that you paid substantially less than the face value of the stamps used to create all these.)

Yes I got them cheap, but it's overwhelming. Lots of FDCs too. A lot of work to to.

Thanks for the insight.
