I could be missing something, but it looks like that on the left stamp the numerals were printed as part of the frame but on the right stamp it was printed as part of the vignette, they even have the same shift as the vignette. My Scott Classic does not mention anything in regards to this and I don't have Magyar Specialized. According to Scott, these are both Scott #191, which means both should've been printed in the same way. Does anyone know anything about this?

Could have been tampered with but why? Is it possible that these stamps were printed in three stages? Frame, vignette, and numerals all printed separately? If the numerals were part of the frame, one would assume that whey would always be in the center of the box? However, some stamps show shifts in numerals' location, like this one. That would explain the different color of the numerals. |

Looking around online suggests @danko may be correct. The numerals appear to wander around. |

Hi, 2 colors - 2 plates - 2 prints. Both plates have cutouts in the bottom corners where modules with different face values are inserted. It depends on which plate they were mounted on, resulting in 2 colors. @danko, you noticed the same displacement of the center plate with the face value. On the last stamp, you can see the doubling (on the left and top) of the lines of the value box (the module with the face value is slightly higher and has taken over the ink) |

Thank you so much for this info. It makes perfect sense now. The same two plates were used for printing of this issue. However, the numerals were replaceable to be used for printing of different face values. Printers had a choice of adding the numerals to frame plate or to vignette plate. I would assume that inserting numerals into a frame plate would've been the proper procedure, but if some one inserts them into a vignette plate, would still be acceptable since both colors are very similar. |

If the numerals were in the vignette plate how come the vignette does not shift directly in proportion to the numerals? |

I assume there was some play in the slots for the numerals, since some of the stamps with numerals in the color of the frame also have shifts in position. Just a theory. |

Hello, in the bottom left corner of the stamp on the right there is an ink smearing and at the end of it what appears to be another 1? Perhaps the different colours of the numerals are due to colour transfer between sheets stacked on top of each other after printing. |

That issue was printed in two colors, Scott calls them Dark Blue and Dull Blue and the number is 191 from 1920. It looks like you have the colors reversed on one of yours. My Hungary specialized catalog doesn't show that error, but then I don't read Hungarian... |

The ink smear looks circular and could be part of another cancel. I don't know if I see the other 1, the little protrusion on the left side of the numeral is from the cancel I believe. I doubt it is a transfer from another sheet. |

Based on capram's explanation, it sounds like the numerals were inserted in the plate with the vignette, hence the similar colors. This could possibly pretty common, I just never paid attention to those stamps. When I get a chance, I will go through my copies of that issue to see if I can find another example from this or other double colored stamps. |
