Thanks parcelpostguy.

There are certainly many different shades for this stamp. Nice photo.

Paper is creamy white; stamp indicia color is considered to be violet. Four dies were used differing in the meridian behind Columbus' head and the periods after "AMERICA" and "CENT". Complicating matters even further (or giving you more varieties to collect) are the numerous working dies. Unfortunately there is nothing (that I have found) tying a particular shade with a particular die. Item on the left appears to be Die A with meridian and periods. Item on the right appears to be Die C with meridian and no periods. There are eleven working dies of Die C and yours appears to be type 3.

Hello jobi01

Does the different dies and color of paper affect the value? Does the catalog # change due to the differences? Thank you for the input.

Scott catalog values do not change but the specialty catalog does list different values for the working dies. Color variations may be of interest to specialized collectors of that issue but those values are not considered to be catalog listable. The specialized catalog is the UPSS catalog of 19th century envelopes, etc.
