Scott 12 (imperforate) or Scott 28 (perf 15.5)?

An attempt to analyze a purportedly "Scott 12" using digital overlays. Please see images below.

Scott 28 (PF CERT 588540, tinted green here) is used for reference. Radial distortion is different for the two images, so some "averaging" is used in creating the overlay.

I believe that a Scott 28 COULD be trimmed to achieve the right margin shown on this "Scott 12." I doubt the same could be said for the bottom margin... I'm inclined to conclude that this is a genuine Scott 12. But that's why I'm here; I'm not an expert, and you folks are. Your thoughts, please (and thanks in advance).

You are being careful, but trimming a 28 to a 12 drops the catalog price about 25%. Also since you have your questions about it, others may too. A cert solves the issue.

I would not count on all Scott #28's being the same size. What if you are starting with a jumbo stamp with badly scissor cut perfs? It's possible someone took a damaged stamp and turned it into an "undamaged " stamp.

The margins are so tight that trimming would be almost impossible anyway.

I'm more confident in the "Scott 12" determination. What distracted me was a comment on theswedishtiger.com:

So... the subject stamp became the last addition to this page:

Thanks to all - always some thoughtful comments in this forum.

The key words on this cert are "rebacked and margins added". That is about the only way to turn a perf stamp into an imperf on this issue.
