Hello everyone,
I have a full sheet of 100 - Scott #1286b the 10¢ Jackson Precancel. My question is would this sheet be worth breaking up and selling in certain formats or selling the full sheet at once? I never seen a price for a full sheet just single stamps or Plate Blocks.
Thank-you in advance for any advice on what way is best.

My personal opinion is that most buyers for a sheet would be dealers who will pay based upon what they can net after breaking it up themselves. Most collectors will fill that spot and move on. Given that Bardo is selling a plate block ($495) for a 125% premium over the value as singles ($50) figures into the equation as well. I guess it depends on whether you want a quick sale for less money (sheet) or can wait to get more out of it (singles and blocks).

Thank you for your opinion rogdcam. A few years ago when I first looked to sell this sheet I kind of ran into what you just stated. I thought maybe not seeing full sheet prices on the auction sites may have a higher value than breaking up the sheet. I'm considering doing that now. May take some time but in the long haul a better return.

It will be a long haul, to be sure, if you want to sell the individual stamps as singles and get a decent return. The last 1286b that I can find sold on ebay was over two months ago, in December, and the same seller has more of the same in stock that have been up on ebay for sale continuously since at least last May. There appears to be very little demand at this price (50% of catalog). It will take some trial and error to find the right price point where singles and blocks will sell in a reasonable timeframe. Maybe a flurry of buyers will come your way at a $10 price point, or maybe not. There are only so many collectors that need a mint copy of this precanceled stamp. Most precancel collectors that I know are happy with a used copy that would cost a buck or less. If it were me, I would first try to sell the sheet intact, take the money and run. There may be a buyer out there after all. The fact that you found no full sheets at auction is not necessarily an indication that there is no demand.

One 1286b (Pittsburgh PA), a single, has sold on ebay in the last 90 days. If you can maintain that sales rate, you will have your sheet gone in 2050, AKA only 25 years. The single sold was done for $24.95 + $1 S&H.

Edit: Well ZebraMan was typing when I was. I also check Seigel's power search and Rumsey Auction there were none found. Lastly, be aware for the specialist, price many vary by city of precancel.
