Hi All

I was wondering if anyone knows if the rare Scott 596 is "line" or "stroke" perforated.

The Scott specialized catalogue says :

Some later U.S. stamps are "stroke" perforated rather than "line"
perforated. While it is difficult to tell the difference on a single stamp,
with a block of four or more stamps the difference is more easily seen
where the horizontal and vertical perforations cross. On the strokeperforated
items, the crossing point is clean and no holes are out of
line. On the line-perforated stamps, the crossing point only rarely is
perfect and generally there is a roughness.

Thanks @revcollector,

I found a 1c Franklin that is line perforated and the measurements from what I can see match the scott 596 size however because of the vertical and horizontal perfs being misaligned (Line perf) I get ever so slightly more than say 11.2 on the bottom.
What are your thoughts, am I measuring correctly, is this worth sending in for cert?

I would check the vertical perfs carefully. It's far more likely to be 11x10.5.

No, one does not measure perfs. Use a perforation gauge. https://stampsmarter.org/learning/F...rfGauge.html

First step in a thread should be showing us a clear scan of the enitre stamp*without* anything overlapped it. Oherwise we are playing a guessing game.

All the images show is a pair. Clearly rotary. Nothing in them proves the vertical perf measurements.

The third image shows 11 perf hole & bridge combinations in 2cm..
The 4th image shows 10.5 such combinations (10 holes, 11 bridges) in 2 cm.
You have a Scott 632.
Period.
