I am learing about various cancels and was wondering if anyone could help in identiying cancellation types for me.

a) I think the 3 cent King George VI on the left is a duplex cancel. I can't find the town. It looks like the last letters are "esarie."
b) Is the King George VI in the middle a Field Post Office Cancel? Can the perfs shown in the second image be identified and do they have anything to do with the cancellation?
c) What type of cancel Is the 1 cent King Edward VIIl? Do the broken solid lines mean anything?

Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

The second cancel ... during WWII, many Canadian cancels were blacked out or excised to remove the city identity. Yours is typical of a handstamp, but here are 4 typical machines showing similar intent. It is somewhat ironic that the return addresses are often present on the covers (#1 absent, #2 Halifax, NS, #3 Victoria, BC, and #4 Vancouver, BC.). The extra hole in the New York Life perfin should reveal the specific office/branch location, but with the caveat this may have been used on a pre-stamped return mail piece from another location.

Thanks, John. So #2 is a handstamp with a New York LIfe perf, not an FPO. Very helpful..

For the first, look for Saint-Cesaire/St-Cesaire, a smallish town in Quebec. (There is an accent over the first e, but that won't matter for your searches.)

The third is a typical roller cancel. The bars are broken with the town, and sometimes, a number. "1" in this case.

ETA: I should have said that I think, but don't know, that your roller cancel is Pembroke, Ontario. Someone who knows may be along to confirm or correct. Or I can check more resources in a few days.

The New York Life perfin appears to be from Vancouver, but I think you are covering one of the code holes with your tongs.

Somehow I knew the resources in here would be excellent. Thank you all for helping me learn. Yes, Jan, the tongs are covering a dot that is below and to the right of the "L". Vancouver? St. Cesaire sounds like a match and I can now go and research roller cancels.

Interesting stuff. I am trying to collect based on my family history, and finally found evidence of an ancestor from Lower Canada (well it had meaning in the 1800s). I have some stock pages, a Harris BNA catalog from 2022, and not enough knowledge when it comes to Canada! I am sure I can learn some things from this section of the forum, even if cannot contribute much.
