Scott lists the violet stamp (#2578, April 1962) but I can find no reference to the blue one. Any gossip appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Rod. What is annoying is that Scott refers to the stamp as multicoloured - the picture shows a violet tab. What colour does SG indicate for this issue? TIA. |

Hi smauggie: This is what my Scott 2005 shows; there is no reference to a variety "a". What year is the Scott you are quoting? Thanks again. |

To be honest I was quoting the website, which listed a Scott variety a. There is no such variety mentioned in the 2010 catalog. |

Glad you got it sorted Tony. For Russia I only have SOTW (stamps of the world) simplified so no in depth info.

Katalog Pochtovykh Marok SSSR gives both stamps major listing numbers, with the same value for both. The blue tab goes with stamp #2673, the lilac tab goes with #2674. No, I can't read much Russian, and it's worse than hunt & peck typing for me to try to use an online translator for Cyrillic text. And those blasted italics - with Cyrillic text, some italic characters are considerably different than their regular counterpart. It's easier to type in English guesses and see what pops up in Russian! Ryan |

My Scott 2009 has the same notes as shown by Tony.
My SG Part 10 has a note, "No. 2675 was issued with se-tenant label showing globe, commemorative dates and signature of Gagarin over background panel of light blue or lilac." |

Quote: In a moment of absurd optimism, I once bought a Polish stamp catalogue... Sometimes absurd optimism pays off! My big "swing at the fences" might be my Azerbaijani catalog. I can't imagine ever learning Azeri, but lo and behold, the catalog is bilingual! Considering I paid a grand sum of €1 for the catalogue, I came out of the deal feeling pretty pleased. Now, my catalogues printed in Chinese, those are another matter ... I hope they have pretty pictures. Ryan |
