I really like these two designs, Martha Washington and Jefferson. The problem is I can't find them in the Scott catalogue. Is there another place I can look?

I really thank all of you on this Forum. It's nice to have collective knowledge.
Thank you
Joanne

I guess they would be in Scott. Look under "postal stationery". Like postcards, envelopes etc

The two are "cut squares" from postal cards. They will be found in the "UX" postal card section of the Postal Stationery back of the book section of the Scott US Specialized Catalog. You will also find the designs in the "UY" postal reply card section as well.

Postal Stationery by memory lists in this order: Regular envelopes (including wrappers), airmail envelopes, official envelopes, regular postal cards, airmail postal cards, regular reply postal cards, airmail reply postal cards, official postal cards.

I do not have my Scott Worldwide Volume 1 handy to verify that postal cards are listed there. The US listings in the volume 1 are streamlined down from the Specialized. Same goes for the US in the Scott Classic.

Edit to add:

So far I have looked through my Scott Catalogue 1A and Classic Specialized catalogue 1840-1940.
I guess I will have to find a Postal Stationary catalogue. Oh well, I will leave them on my desk for now and enjoy them that way.

I think the Jefferson cutout comes from UX27 printed in 1914 - catalogs under $1 for a mint entire
I think the M. Washington comes from UY7 printed in 1915 - catalogs for about $2 for a mint entire

The postal cards (UX) are pre-printed postcards. The postal reply cards (UY) re pre-printed postcards with a second card printed and separated by rouletting. The reply cards are upside down and on the reverse side in relation to the postal card. The idea was that you would send a card to your recipient, and they would get a reply card they could used to write you back. The M. Washington one is part of the reply card. The front depicts G. Washington. Presumably these were intended for a man to send from the George side and a woman would reply with the Martha side.

Collectors of postal and postal-reply cards do not collect "cut squares" as some collectors do for the postal stationery envelopes.

Unless you are really going to get into collecting these, there is no need to get a UPSS catalog - the Scott Specialized US catalog has the basic listings. There are not a ton of them. There are only 42 UXs up to the 1950s and only 15 UYs in that timeframe. (There are also Airmail: UXC, and a single Official postal card: UZ1). A lot of them catalog under $5 and most of them are under $100. You can find them for WAY less if they have minor damage, like a creased corner, so this is a very approachable area to collect. Used can be fun and affordable to collect too - you can get interesting cancels and sometimes interesting content, including commercial or exposition pre-printing on the reverse. I like to display them in 2-section clear Lighthouse Vario sheets (1-section for the UYs) so you can see the front and back of them.

You need to consult the Scott United States Specialized catalog, not the Classic Specialized nor the Scott 1A.

Buy, or check the local library for a US Specialized. Older ones are inexpensive on ebay.

Here, two older ones are free except for postage cost to send: https://goscf.com/t/86326 however one needs 50 quality posts to participate.
