Nice simple envelope design - it would be great to see one of those with a bicycle manufacturer/seller return address.

1870s: the high-wheel bicycle




I don't know who the engraver was. Nethryk would though I'm sure.

The Transportation series was one of the finest and most interesting
definitives produced by the BEP, even though my judgement is
based on only the few I have.

Someone should show the whole set in the Collecting by Engravers

lithograving - The engraving work on your pair of Bicycle 1870s USA Scott No. 1901 is as follows: Vignette: Gary M. Chaconas, Lettering: Thomas J. Bakos. Also, I will be posting some additional examples of Gary Chaconas's engraving work on the "Collecting by Engraver" thread this morning. - nethryk

Here are images of the two stamps in a bicycles set depicting, respectively, a bicycle wheel and a carnation, and a cyclist, printed by photogravure, and issued by Poland on May 4, 1957 to publicize the 10th International Peace Bicycle Race, Warsaw-Berlin-Prague, Scott Nos. 777 & 778.
