The father and son team of Pierre and Ernest Michaux are credited by some historians for being the true inventors of the modern bicycle. It was at their carriage company in Paris in 1867 that they first assembled a two-wheeled vélocipède. Here is an image of a stamp depicting three men riding vélocipèdes, designed and engraved by Jean Delpech, and issued by France on October 1, 1983, Scott No. 1902, Y&T No. 2290.

I started off collecting US classic, but I've been looking for a way to dip my toe into something worldwide. I'm a cyclist and I think that cycling/bicycles may be just the ticket. Lots of beautiful stamps on this thread. Thank you all for the inspiration!
