I found these beautiful ying/yang Koi stamps today when we were talking about foreign airmail envelopes. Can anyone tell me what other denominations, and colors, they came in?

They were originally issued in 2 sets, slightly different design, in the 1960s and 1970s. You have one from the 2nd set. Scott however, only list the main paper varieties. I'll pull my catalog and give you a list of the main denominations for each set.
It's one of my favorite issues, especially the $100 stamp (because it's ORANGE!!). |

First Issue (1st printing) 29Mar1965 (Scott #1441-1447) $5, 5.60, 6, 10, 20, 50, 100.
First Issue (2nd printing) 20Aug1967 (Scott mentioned, but not cataloged) $10-$100 (minor differences in die and paper)
Second Issue (1st printing) 1969 (Scott #1606a-1609a) $10, 20, 50, 100 (perf 11.5, 27mm high)
Second Issue (2nd printing) 1974 (Scott #1606-1609) same denominations (perf 13.5x12.5, 28mm high)
Second Issue (set expansion) 15Dec1976 (Scott #1980) $14
There are actually other minor printing varieties of the Second Issue that are not listed/mentioned in Scott. These are primarily paper varieties, and deal with the amount of silk fibers in the granite paper. Sorry, my ROC specialized catalog is archived right now as I put most of my Chinese stamps on hold. |

What is it about "boys" and the color ORANGE? It's nice in flowers, accents; nature... Cars? well? another story. Anyway! :) Thanks so much for the great information. While I'm not looking to add to my collection... Those would be really fun.

Barb, these are quite common, so you can put your coveting aside It <will> turn up I am sure, and to add to your enjoyment she has a sibling I am not sure what the significance is, with the Koi, and postal savings, there may be a message there somewhere. Reply to a query: |
