I collect stamps from Austria and I'm hoping someone else out there can help me out with a question. I know that from 1867 to 1872 the two countries shared the same stamps. However the next series, as per the Scott cat, shows that the stamps were only made for Austria. Since they are the same stamps how are you supposed to tell what numbers they are? I thought maybe the perfs would be different, but no.

I am not an expert but the cancellation date or place might be one way. Shade or paper type might be another.

Isn't the difference in the coarse and fine printing?
