Shown is a Canadian cover with a couple of hand stamps on the front. The original Winnipeg cancel is for the 21st of November 1945 ie after the end of WW2

The cover is marked return to sender and the reason ticked is that the service number was wrong.

The rectangular hand stamp UNABLE TO LOCATE ..... is recorded with the initials C.A.S.F. Canadian Active Service Force.

On this cover it appears that the last two letters have been deliberately removed - it is cleanly done except for a trace of the F. There is no sign of wear etc on the C or the O at either end. As far as I know this is not recorded

I am wondering if it was altered to stand for Canadian Army rather than the original meaning or if it is just a freak. Did the Canadian army stop using Canadian Active Service Force after the war ?.

Any thoughts most welcome

It appears that the original address had labels put over it and re-addressed. And they do state Canadian army overseas in pencil. So yes there appears to be an attempt to deliberatly prevent those last two letters from being shown in the handstamp, but the letters are partily still there. And the red pencil strikethrough of the word overseas, appears to be an indicator he was no longer located there.

Edit: add last sentence
