We were watching the Congo fruit bats guzzling on mangoes earlier this evening too.
If you hadn't found out about the Australian Ghost Bat stamp shown by Penguins yet, it is one of 6 Counter-printed stamps released 21 June 1993. NPC1 indicates that the stamp came from the trial machine at the National Philatelic Centre. Story in Australian Stamp Bulletin no.220, June-July 1993, with supplementary notes in the next 2 issues.

Rod,
The bat stamp was in the presentation folder of Counter Printed Stamps.
The first two scans show the inside of the presentation folder with the 6 different stamps inscribed NPC1.

The next set was inscribed NPC and the information puts the date at 1993.

Murphy's Law states
"If you are looking for Australian Stamp Bulletins for 1993 you will find 1990 and 1994 onwards - you will not find 1993"

Perhaps you will be able to access the bulletins for that period - that should give some information too.
Cheers
Ron.

We watched the same programme on the TV as Rodney did.
At night in our backyard we can watch possums taking fruit from the neighbour's trees, then dropping the peel or stones on our side of the fence.

Fantastic info Ron, I do thank you,
snaffled the post and put it in my Counter Printed folder.

I have counter printeds from an earlier issue.

Possums:
We also have a resident possum, In my bedroom there is
a built-in wardrobe with a false ceiling, the little rascal
has made a home in the cavity thus made, amongst the ceiling
insulation. He scuffles around before leaving at dusk,
and wakes me when he returns in the early morning.

I'll allow him to stay until winter is over, and then put
the rent up so he will have to leave.
Originally I put a house brick over his entry point,
but the little tiger soon despatched those. Strong little critters.

Further to the bats postings.
The Aussie bat was also issued on a card as a normal self adhesive stamp
(not counter printed).
So you (Rod) might need one of those for your collection also.
The scan is of the overprinted version for the Chicago Stamp Expo '92.
Cheers
Ron.

I have that bat issue, (ad nauseum)
Never seen the Chicago expo opt though.

Thanks very much.
I am still enjoying Eunice's letters from the Peninsular war
although I only research in short stints.

Had to prove that we too, up in the Great White North, also have bats. Wise ones than run away (um - fly away) for several months of the year.

For those who like a puzzle. The second block has a corrected error in it and was reprinted in quantities similar to the error block, the first one. Can you find it without looking it up?

Look at the two stamps that show the kingfisher and the set's title just below its wingtip. That's Scott #1564. In this original printing (top), the French version of "migratory wildlife" was issued as "aune migrative". When this was pointed out, the corrected version (bottom)was printed with "faune migrative".
