For those who cannot get enough of this thread, be aware (I wasn't!) that there is a parallel thread entitled "Engraved Stamps Take 2" here at SCF, where 29 pages-worth of engraved material can be seen and enjoyed.

Galeoptix - Rein, I am sorry. Yesterday, I left behind FILATELIE No.7/2004 containing a sequel to Mr. Vondøich's article on printing stamps. In it he deals with WIFAG combination printings as practised nowadays.

He says that the photogravure steel cylinder covered with a layer of copper between 1 mm and 2 mm thick and smooth to perfection is substantially the same size as the recess cylinder. Another layer of copper just about a few tenths of a millimeter thick is then applied using the galvano process onto the photogravure cylinder. The surface of this final layer of copper has to be ground smooth and polished to perfection so as to be etched in the classical way using a film exposed to the stochastic screen.

So much in the hope that I did not confuse the matter yet further.

Galeoptix - Rein, all I could do is send photos of the article to your e-mail address. Otherwise, volumes of the FILATELIE monthly revue appear with a delay of 10 years on http://www.filaso.cz/knihovna-digitalizace.php, so Volume 2004's chance will be next year.

Zdravím, Florian

News just received from the Son of Spanish Engraver Antonino Sánchez Gutiérrez (1932):

FNMT Spain is hosting an exhibition of work by Engraver Antonino Sánchez Gutiérrez and of the artists twin brothers Manuel Sánchez Algora and Vicente Sánchez Algora; exhibition runs from May 22, 2013 to Sept 01, 2013.

Readers from Spain living in/near Madrid perhaps can go over to see the exhibition. Please tell us about the exhibits.

Here is a picture of Antonino Sánchez Gutiérrez.

Commencing with this post, there will be a full listing of his work on Spanish Stamps, then Andora.

The list may duplicate the many images that have already been posted before in this thread; if this type of listing is felt unnecessary, please do tell me.

Yes canadian keep on posting. Never mind if some have been
shown before, it won't be the first time.

It will be very useful for future reference to have a complete list
of all the stamps engraved by Antonino Sánchez Gutiérrez.

Canadian - Any idea what FNMT engraver might have produced the preubas Goya dummy stamp image, please? And when might it date from?

A lot shot, but worth a try!

I am enjoying seeing the works of Gutiérrez that you are uploading, for which many thanks.

Glenn: I have asked both Gutiérrez's son and Sampedro's contact; they are the two most senior engravers alive who can talk; I expect a reply in about a week and I will share it here.

On your African tribe girl, a similar proof is said to have been in the Egon Falz's stamp collection, but do not have confirmation it was done by him; Egon has passed on; there are retired engravers who are being asked and keep your fingers crossed, touch wood, don't loose hope etc.,
