Hello everyone! My name is Rohan.

I had a small stamp collection that I had assembled when I was a teenager in the early 90s. Back then, before the internet became commonplace, there were limited resources for learning about the stamps I had in my album. Some of the stamps were collected from letters received from relatives and pen pals across the world while others were gifted to me by friends of my parents who wanted to help me build my collection.

Cut to the present day, I rediscovered my stamp album - all the stamps still in reasonably decent condition - and realized that what I had collected was far more interesting (to me, at least) than I had first realized.

Amidst what I thought were plain West and East German stamps, were a few from Germany's occupation zones, some from the 3rd Reich and even a few from the Weimar republic. I learnt that a Belgian Congo stamp overprinted with a red 'Congo' and cancelled with a 1962 Albertville postmark came from the thick of the Congo civil war. I found out that the 'BMA' printed on British Malaya King George VI stamps were from the British Military Administration that governed Malay in the immediate aftermath of the Japanese Surrender.

I've since grown the collection a bit more with stamps purchased from dealers and have tried to digitize and put up a few of my original and newly acquired stamps on a personal website

I'm hoping to share my newly rediscovered passion for stamps with all of you and learn as much as I can to build a really good collection.

Good luck with your collection Rohan.
It's nice to hear from someone who has become a
new collector on rediscovering their childhood collection, rather than the more usual focus on, "What's it worth?"

Welcome Rohan! You have lots of company in this Community! Many stamp collectors began interest in the hobby as young kids. I am one of them myself. I had a modest little collection in middle school years and lost interest by high school days. Decades later, as I planned to retire from the marketing business, I also found my old stamp album and I became once again interested in stamps. Biggest difference as an adult collector was my ability to invest in serious collecting. As a kid I grew up poor and was unable to put aside funds for building my collection. I hope you enjoy your hobby and being connected to this Stamp Community Family!

Wellcome.
You've described one of the things I love about collecting: The story behind the stamps.
In my Bulgaria collection, there's a stamp commemorating the end of a war, and a year or two later, a stamp commemorating another Bulgarian conquest. I found it ironic.
In my Hungary collection, I saw post-WWI stamps of the republic era, the pre soviet comonist era, the invasion of Romania into Hungary, the Horthy regency era, all using overprints of the same stamps, so the same stamps depicted important events in Hungary.
