Or, maybe something else?

thanks in advance if you know

by the way: For the PSS referral that I know is coming: Yes, I signed up for the PSS and paid online last week. I just have had no response / email yet and was waiting that to buy the 2 more of the catalogs, ...I'm not sure how long they take to process things

They are run of the mill cork cancels. As for the gook on the back I don't know what it is but it ain't original gum. I have owned a MNH 114 and the gum looked nothing at all like what you show. Maybe someone glued it into an album at one point? Your guess is as good as mine but it is not og.

Common cancels, regumming practice on the back, bad regumming practice.

Probably just the leftover adhesive used to attach the stamps to whatever they were on. It dried out, and the stamps probably fell off of whatever the item was. I seriously doubt that anyone was practicing anything on this pair.

It does look like the sticky stuff you see from an old photo album. Its a shame tho because IMO its a nice pair (even having been sliced a little at the bottom right).

Bobcat, actually the stamps are not sliced off on the bottom right. They are actually folded over possibly without creasing on the backside. They deserve a light warmed bath to soften and hopefully remove that gum. It looks like old clear honey looking Lepages muselage we used on scrapbooks 60 years ago. And also the stamp paper can be easily moved back into its normal flat position and pressed dry , possibly without creasing. Unfortunatly the right one does appear to have a paper thin or two on its reverse.

Edit: added the word possibly and last sentance.

So:

A half day soak and whatever that gum was came right off in plain water.
That corner roll flattened out very nice but the little tip end of a perf and a half had a thin there
