I couldn't find these coat or arms ones in Scott. In fact, if you look at this strip closely you will see there are 2 different varieties, but they look similar. The far left and far right ones are the same variety. The 3 middle ones contain the word Telegraf at the top. I can't seem to find any of them though. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks. Marc

Thanks. In that case 2 questions:

1 - Where are they listed?

2 - Are they generally worth anything and worth tracking down at all?

Somebody told me the catalog that would list those specific Filipino telegraph stamps, but I don't remember the name. Sorry.

I know almost nothing about telegraph stamps. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

I think that Edifil has a (spanish) catalog for these. Or at least that's what I recall reading somewhere...

Edifil has only the Spanish Telegraphs.
For similar plate types, eg Cuba, Philippines, you need
specialist literature, AFAIK.
I know the Cuban reference but not the Philippines.

Searching on DelCampe showed a few mint hinged ones being sold by a fellow in France using the numbers from a French catalogue called Yvert et Tellier (YT) that he had priced at about 75 cents a piece to sell.

I do not have that catalogue. I have an old 1895 catalogue from France that shows telegraph stamps but the pricing wouldn't be correct of course.

A guy in the USA is selling two used Philippines Telegraph stamps for $1 on there also. Limited market, minimal value I would say, just because of the limited market. Curiosity value perhaps?

Thanks everyone. Since they are not worth much please don't spend any further time on identifying these. Cheers. Marc

They may not be worth much, but I think they
are super. If you ever consider selling,
I have my son's piggy bank close by, and a hammer.

And, I would still be interesting in knowing the name of the specialty catalog that lists the Filipino telegraph stamps! You know, the catalog name that I forgot!

I have a good memory; I just can't find it!

The best modern world catalogues of telegraphs are the books by Hiscocks. The more recent 'Telegraph Seals: A World Catalogue' by S.E.R. Hiscocks, from 2007.

Google books hosts Diccionario de la administracion de Filipinas. The book is obviously in Spanish. It does state that these stamps were used in the situation where a telegraph was being sent to a destination that did not have a telegraph station. In that case, once the telegraph arrived it was put in a cover, and addressed to the recipient at their mailing address, and dropped in the nearest post box. These stamps were used for postage on the envelopes, and the stamp ensured that the telegram was treated as certified mail. The cost of the stamp to send the telegraph by mail once it reached the telegraph station was paid by the sender of the telegraph, so that the person who received it was not responsible for any cost. Cool stuff.

That was one of them!

But there was one more specifically for Filipino or Spanish Area telegraph stamps.

This guy has put up some info online about them, but not much:

http://catalogue.klaseboer.com/vol2...spainph2.htm

A brief history of Philippine stamps is here:

http://www.stampez.com/content/view/401/36/

Then on ebay this guy listed a series of Philatelic handbooks called Billig's Philatelic Handbooks and Volume 10 seems to list Philippine telegraph stamps:

http://reviews.ebay.com/List-of-Con...000004668514

Nothing exciting really in terms of info. Just a bit of what I found when Googling.
