Wow! nice Marc.
Is it me, or does the lean look exaggerated to you?

Yeah, it does look a bit exaggerated I guess. It certainly makes the stamp more dramatic though :)

It does appear to be exaggerated.

I did a quick Google search and wasn't able to find any other stamps depicting the Leaning Tower. Is anyone aware of any?

Interesting tomiseksj. By the way, I like the stamp you are using for your avatar. I was digging through some old USA stamps yesterday and came across one, but unfortunately it was pretty haevily cancelled.

Thanks, Marcbkk. The avatar is Scott #929, the Iwo Jima single. It was issued in 1945 to commemorate the achievements of the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II.

As for other Pisa stamps, there are a few. I saw one from Austria, Gambia, and a few others, but they werent nicely isolated shots of the tower like that. Italy actually has another one where the tower is pretty clear from 2002 - Scott #2507. The only other isolated one I found is from Senegal from 1998 - Scott #1344, but not as atmospheric.

The Italian stamp from 2002 showing the Tower (SG 2779) is part of a joint issue with the United Nations for Italian UNESCO World Heritage sites, matching UN SG 893, UN(V) SG V371, and UN(G) SG G451.

I've a pretty nice plate block of tomiseksj's avatar which I'm willing to let go. We can talk about combining with something or exchange or... later.

The lean as depicted on the stamp implies that the stamp designer is somebody who had future in mind.

So far these four blocks of four.

I know Kim is concerned about the corners, but I'm guessing no one has looked at these in about 40+ years... they look pretty ok to me.

I'll talk trading / etc in a little while when I know what I've got... still working on that.

Thanks for posting those blocks. They are nice. I am actually looking to buy a number of US stamps that I want to photograph and this is one of them. I basically need only one of each stamp, but a block of 4 is OK as it gives me a better chance of finding one perfectly printed specimen. Once I am ready, I plan to post the list of stamps by Scott # that I am looking for to see if forum members might be able to help with some of them. Thanks again for sharing.

By happenstance, I was listening to a Johnny Cash CD the other day. One of the songs was "The Ballad of Ira Hayes". Ira Hayes was a Native American who was one of the men raising the flag in that famous photo.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ira_Hayes

Ira Hayes returned a hero
Celebrated through the land
He was wined and speeched and honored
Everybody shook his hand

But he was just a Pima Indian
No water, no home, no chance
At home nobody cared what Ira'd done
And when did the Indians dance

Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war

Ryan
