I have a couple of El Salvador Mini Sheets with an image JFK on the stamps. I have 2 sheets. One is 70 cents (green) and one is 80 cents (blue). The stamps on the sheet themselves are dated 1964, which corresponds with Type A189 in Scott. But the sheet surrounding the stamps says something about Apolo and shows a date of 1969. So I am not sure if these sheets were issued in 1964 or 1969. In Scott there is nothing in 1969 that I can see which has this design. Only the A189 design of 1964.

The 1964 design does show a 70c mini sheet, but not one in the 80 cents denomination.

So there are 2 reasons why I don't think it is the A189 type. The date on the sheet of 1969 which does not correspond and the fact that I have a sheet with an 80 cents value which is not listed under the A189 type.

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Cheers. marc

What you have is a variety of #750 and #C214 that is mentioned in Scott but not assigned a minor Scott number. You have a miniature sheet which has a marginal overprint (i.e., overprint ONLY in the margin and not directly on the stamp). Had Scott classified this as a souvenir sheet, then it would have been assigned a minor Scott catalog number. Yeah, as usual, there are exceptions to the normal Scott editorial policy -- so don't blame me when you see exceptions in the catalog (typical Scott inconsistency).

Read the footnote after #798 and #C259; the footnote explains the existence of the overprint.

Thanks Kim. So are there catalog numbers available for these in another catalog then and an approximate value? Or should I just assume they are valued the same as the A189 type listed in Scott? Cheers. marc

Sorry Marc, I don't know much about Central and South American stamps. Somebody else will need to chime in.

El Salvador issued 6 stamps and 2 souvenir sheets in 1964 commemorating President Kennedy.
Two of the stamps and both souvenir sheets were overprinted and re-released in 1969 to commemorate the Moon Landing. "Alunizaje Apolo - 11 21 Julio 1969" is the overprint on the stamps (40c & 50c), and under the stamps on the sheets (70c & 80c). The sheets are numbered in SG as MS 1296 (70c) and MS 1298 (80c). They are also numbered in Michel as B 30/1, and in Yvert as B 26/7.
In SG (2009) both sheets are listed as GBP 1.90 mint, 1.80 used.
